Kente in all its Glory
This year’s 3rd Annual Fundraising prestigious Kente Dinner and Dance took place at an exclusive banqueting suite in Mitcham, Surrey on Friday 4th March 2011.
Heads turned as the room filled with people in their spectacular array of colourful and traditional costumes made from the majestic hand woven Kente fabric from Ghana. This hand woven fabric bedazzled eyes with its colours and an array of pattern’s and historic story telling designs.
Mrs Catherine Ampaw the founder of Kente UK events and the Executive Director of OBE TV shared with the audience the long term vision. The vision is to bring people together via our cultural events, showcasing our creative wealth and diversity.
“The African dispora must unite in the UK, enveloping all who agree into their Royal African heritage so promoting culture, tourism and investment in the UK and Ghana”.
The event organisers support Afrikid’s; a UK based Charity whose mission ensures the rights of children in Ghana are met today by empowering the local people in the Northern part of Ghana.
The highlight of the night’s event was the crowning of Miss Kente Queen UK, which was won by London’s stunning beauty Ms Beatrice Ametepe, whose reign is for a year.
For her prize, Ms Ametepe will fly to Ghana, courtesy of OBE TV and to the home of Kente to see how this fabric is created and woven by the local people.
