A Message from OBE TV Chairman

A speech by Mr. Bernard Ampaw, Chairman, Original Black Entertainment Television Limited (OBETV) on 18 December 2004 marking the channel's one year broadcasting anniversary. Really, has it been that long? No. Far from it. The reason is simple. OBE TV has come to represent a strong beacon of hope, a key platform for sowing the seeds of aspirations and the realistic feeling of the actualisation of those aspirations.

  • Age profile: c.60% of ethnic minorities are under 35 years old.
  • The ethnic 16-34 age group are amongst some of the most optimistic, ambitious and very materialistic people.
  • Second and third generation ethnic minorities are upwardly mobile with a high standard of education and high disposable income.
  • 16% of ethnic minorities are self-employed compared to 10% of the white population.
  • 36% of non-white business owners have a degree compared with 17% of white business owners.
